What is an Argument?

In normally the word "Argument" is used to designated a fight or dispute. But we can use this as a technical word. In philosophy , Argument is a collection of statements, that bear truth or falsity. Arguments contains premises and conclusions. These are support to identify the argument.

Premises mean some of the statements and  the conclusion mean reason for them. There are many word phrases, that indicate the premises. Such as, Because, Since, If, As indicated by, It follows from, Assuming that, Given that and etc.

Premises lead to the conclusions. Some word phrase indicate the conclusion such as, Therefore, In conclusion, So, Consequently, Hence, It proves that, Thus, It follows that and implies that etc. Premises and conclusions are propositions. Statements made in an argument are known as a propositions. Not all arguments contain indicator words.

The standard form of arguments contain prepositions that contain premises and conclusions.

Example: Standard form ( P-Premise, C- Conclusion)

(P1)- Some students who are using mobile phones, computers they are addicted to video games.

(P2)- Video games makes students lazy and impulsive.

(C1)- Therefore some students who are playing video games they are become lazy and impulsive.

           Remarks:

          a) Premises justify the conclusion. Therefore, the example is an argument.

Sometimes premises can be true but conclusions can be false. So that statements somebody can say  there is no an argument.

There are two styles of the arguments in reasoning. They are deductive and inductive reasoning.

The deductive reasoning mean the premises are true and conclusions must be true.

For an example:  Iresha is my elder sister.

                           Iresha is Manel's daughter.

                          Therefore Manel is my mother.

In inductive reasoning , argument premises are true conclusions are true.

For an example: Kamal can sing well.

                           Kamal has a studio.

Therefore, Kamal's sister can sing well.

For only good reasons if premises are satisfied the logical condition and conclusions are true they are called strong arguments.

Arguments are used to say what is good or bad? and for the reasoning that we can do evaluate whether it is good or bad? Arguments are used to show what I want, what is my idea.

Language  very important for humans as well as animals to express and communicate their ideas. When we are arguing some statements with others language is the main way to explain our ideas. So when we are arguing some we have to use proper language to understand to others what I said to others. Understanding also very important thing to when we arguing with the statements. Some sentences there is no any meaning. As an example, "The square root of mine is tree." This types of sentences are called "Garden path sentences". This sentence is grammatically correct but there is no any meaning. When we pronouncing we can heard like " The square root of nine is three". This is grammatically correct and meaningful.

We are live in a huge society therefore we have to argue with others to express our ideas weather some statements are good or bad/ true or false.
